Make no mistake; government overhaul is essential. The latest election concerns have divided the country in political debate with individuals backing one ideation over another. While promises are being made in the hope of election success, until partisan special interests can be silenced it is uncertain if campaign rhetoric will be met. Governments are being forced to realign. And although chaos seems rampant, eventually the governing bodies will reflect a more accurate representation of the people they are intended to serve. Birthing change never seems easy. But it is necessary if we truly desire to optimize our living conditions.
The following is an excerpt from The Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by our forefathers on July 4, 1776. These words mean many things to many different people. However, some 200 years ago creative and thoughtful men placed great hope in the message these words would deliver. Perhaps we have forgotten how powerful these words really are.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
… That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends,
it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government…
Ponder these words for a moment. The implications are enormous. If all the governments could abide by these declarations, then everyone could live within the framework our founding fathers sought to provide. The original intention for governing bodies was to provide guidance, cohesion and leadership, not to impose unreasonable taxation and restraints on the people they were intended to represent. Those who have, for too long, imposed their will upon the people they have misrepresented, will ultimately be accountable for their actions, not only by the individuals they represent, but in the reconciliation seen through the eyes of spirit. We do have the capability to reclaim our power over any unruly government.
The Preamble of the United States of America (and note it is the United States, not the un-United States) declares: We are “One nation under God.” This is what our founding fathers were striving to preserve, the voice of ALL people.
Responsible Representation
Recent headlines have been littered with the exploits of elected officials whose behavior and ethics have come under public scrutiny. Although their actions may be regrettable, it might be helpful to remember that this is all part of a new emerging energy that reveals the misconduct of those chosen to represent their constituency, and is a reminder to the rest of us to become more discerning when deciding for whom to vote. We should be seeking to elect officials whose innovative character, wisdom, moral and ethical conduct are above reproach. No longer can we tolerate business as usual, or should I say antics as usual, by anyone whose agenda is not for the general good of those they represent. As campaign costs continue to soar, the candidates available to select from are more likely to be well-funded by special interest groups and therefore unlikely to offer a progressive platform of service.
Bipartisan versus Partisan
What if elected officials were eager to work together to resolve concerns before a crisis? I doubt any could escape daily accounts of debt debates, disputes, and stand-offs between the United States Congress and Senate. Or should I say between the Democrats and Republicans? Or was it between the Tea Party and special interest groups? Clearly, the current government system is broken and change is essential if any kind of stability is to be regained. More importantly, political bickering is counter-productive and prevents any kind of meaningful legislation from being enacted. Divided interests only create chaos. Have you ever been in a meeting trying to obtain a unified consensus? It isn’t likely to happen unless the majority of participants sincerely want the best outcome for all concerned.
As you are aware there is a great deal of election unpredictability. Wherever your political passions call you, one element should be the foundation for your decision making; that whomever our elected candidate may be that they represent those principles that are in the highest good for the majority of the people under their decision making agendas. Voting is an opportunity to express your choice for what you presume to be the candidate that will serve humanity. But do choose wisely, our future depends upon it.
